Welcome Back, Solar Eclipse and More...

I hope you all are enjoying the last few days of your trackout.  I am looking forward to seeing everyone rested and ready to go on Monday, August 21.

As many of you know, there is going to be a solar eclipse on Monday.  We would love to give as many children as possible the opportunity to witness the eclipse.  We have had eclipse viewing glasses donated to the school for this event.  However, in order to watch the eclipse, your child must return the attached permission slip when they return on Monday.  All parts of the form must be completed in order for your child to participate (including the witness signature, which can simply be signed by another adult).  Any student who does not have this form completed in its entirety will not be able to go outside during the event.  We will have the event streaming on the Smart Board for students whose parents choose for them not to participate, or do not have the permission slip completed.  I understand that this timing is difficult, as we track in on the day of the event, however we must adhere to the Wake County guidelines.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

I will be scheduling times for conferences shortly after we track back in, so please be on the lookout for a sign up genius link in the coming week if you would like to set up a time to meet.  If the times on the sign up do not fit into your schedule, please contact me directly and I will be happy to work with you on finding a time that does work for you.

Picture Day is coming up on Monday, August 28.  Please be on the lookout for order forms this week.

If you know of any parents that do not receive my earlier email today, please have them contact me directly at  As I make my new email list each year I do make the occasional mistake, and want to make sure that I correct any email addresses that I typed incorrectly.  Or, if I do not have an email address on file for you, please contact me so that I can add you.

Have a Great Weekend!

OWL Binder

Hello Parents,
I would like to start by thanking you all for a great first week.  As we wrap up the first week, I wanted to let you know that my primary way of communicating our class newsletter is through your child's "OWL" binder.  OWL stands for Organized Weekly Learning.  This is where I will give updates on important dates, as well as what is going on in class.  In addition, you can see your child's progress on their classwork and homework.  I have found this to be a very effective way to keep parents in the loop, and also help students maintain their own accountability for their work.  I give the class a new copy of their OWL each Friday, so you can expect your son/daughter to come home with a new copy of this tonight.  Please let me know if you have any questions as you look it over.  Thank you again, I am looking forward to an excellent school year.

Specials Project

During the first quarter, all of our specialists are collaborating on a project where the students learn about the cultures of different Spanish speaking countries.  As a part of this, students will be keeping a "passport" that they need to take with them to each of their specials as they learn about the different countries.  To see more about this project, here is a link to more information from Mrs. Lipetzky.

Welcome Back!

I am very excited to kick start the 2017-2018 school year next week!  I look forward to seeing the students Monday morning and get off to a great start for our year together.  In addition to using my blog for communication, I will also use email, and your child's daily binder.  We are going to have an outstanding year togehter!
